Introduction...

For our Time Based Narrative project, we have to produce an animation in groups that responds to sound and/or music. The work must also show a strong narrative. As someone with no previous experience in animation other than stop-motion, this project is bound to be a challenge!

The project started 5 weeks ago - but as I've only recently got internet, blogging my process has been difficult to say the least. Better late than never!

The Assessment Criteria:
  • Evidence of generation and exploration of a number of narrative ideas.
  • The degree to which the project work meets specified formats and conventions of storytelling and narrative.
  • An ability to visualise a story effectively through the use of storyboards.
  • The effective use of filmic language and conventions demonstrated in the storyboard.
  • Their ability to create movement effectively through the recording of static images.
  • The effectiveness of the project work in articulating the idea.

During the first seminar, we were given some visual references. For example, 'Partitura 001' by Abstract Birds and Quayola, is a sound visualisation which uses geometric shapes and music to represent different timbres, rhythms and pitch within the piece of music:
